Bust of martyr Mayengbam Keronjit Meitei unveiled

Kakching, September 26 2026: Former president of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) Headquarters, Mayengbam Somorjit Meitei has raised grave concerns over the alleged "proxy war" being waged by Kuki narco-terrorists against the indigenous people of Manipur.

He stated,'The continued killing of indigenous people by Kukis threatens their future and could eventually lead to their disappearance'.

In view of the above, he called upon the indigenous communities to remain united and make concerted efforts to counter such acts.

Somorjit was speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the braveheart Mayengbam Keronjit Meitei who was killed on May 28, 2023 at Sugnu in Kakching district while defying the aggression of armed Kukis to protect the locals of the region.

It may be noted that Somorjit is the younger brother of Mayengbam Keronjit Meitei.

Referring to the ongoing attacks upon the Nagas, he expressed discontent that the Government has failed utterly in containing the violence and the aggression of the Kukis.

He maintained that the Government and relevant authorities remain as mute spectators and free hand is given to the Kukis to carry on the violence.

Somorjit also questioned the silence of the Chief Minister, Ministers and other elected members over the continued violence and loss of lives amid this ongoing conflict.

Today's unveiling ceremony was organised by Youth of Pangantabi (YOP).

RK Nimai, retired IAS, vice-president Social development & Sporting Club Gotimayum Bishorjeet, President of the Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar, Chairperson Pangantabi GP Laishram Urirei and other renowned personalities also attended the event among others.

As a part of the event, floral tributes were paid to the martyrs of the ethnic conflict and two-minute silence was observed in their honour.
