Imphal, June 20 2023:
While contending that legislators of Manipur presently in Delhi lack unity which is of serious concern to the public, UCM former president Sunil Karam remarked the MLAs and ministers might face wrath of the public when they return home.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a protest against narco-terrorism organised at Keishampat Lairembi community hall by 15 different organisations under the aegis of COCOM1 on Tuesday, Sunil, who is also former coordinator of COCOMI, regretted that contrary to firm stand of 10 Kuki MLAs in demanding separate administration and posing threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur, the 50 MLAs camping in Delhi are bereft of cohesion in their attitude and conduct.
The public expect the MLAs to remain united and present the current situation of Manipur to the Prime Minister and urged him to take up necessary measures to bring normalcy in the state, he stressed.
While alleging that the government of India in its attempt to use the Kuki militants signed the SoO agreement thereby aiding the latter in carrying out drug businesses and poppy plantation in the state, he also claimed that central forces are engaging Kuki militants in counter insurgency operation with the ultimate objective to suppress the Meitei population.
The act of the government to galvanise all resources to contain the agitating Meiteis but giving free hand to the armed Kuki militants under SoO agreement lacks could be the reason for the restive situation continuing unabated, Sunil Karam said and added that the PM Narendra Modi remaining silent even after almost 50 days of the eth nic violence testify that the Centre does not consider the Manipuris as Indians or is scheming to pit the indig enous communities against one another in a bitter fight.
