Saikul protestors seek Central Government's intervention

Kangpokpi, June 20 2023:
Thousands of people including villagers of Khamenlok area held a massive sit-in-protest today at Saikul sub-divisional headquarters in Kangpokpi district denouncing the alleged attack and burning down of ten villages in Khamenlok area from June 12 to 14 .
The sit-in-protest which was organized under the aegis of Kuki Women Union, Saikul Block saw protestors holding placards and the tricolour from 12 noon till late in the afternoon.
Various prominent Kuki leaders and representatives of Kuki Women Union Saikul Block spoke on the occasion and strongly denounced the Khamenlok attack and arson while terming the incident as a "calculated State-sponsored design" .
Questioning the prolonged silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the protestors sought his immediate intervention in resolving the problems of the Kukis.
Conveying their pain over the Prime Minister's silence, the protestors said that they feel like an "abandoned" child.
An internally displaced woman from Khamenlok area, who participated in the sit-in-protest said on June 14 when Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba came to Khamenlok area the people expected many positive things but unfortunately their expectations came crumbling as their villages were reportedly torched after the political leaders left the area.
While seeking timely intervention of the Central Government, she said that it will help in bringing normalcy and peace in the State.
The protestors also shouted slogans such as "Stop State-sponsored attack on Kukis", "Permanent solution will only bring peace in Manipur", "Zero confidence in N Biren Singh", "Impose AFSPA in Manipur valley, invoke PR in the State" etc.
The sit-in-protest culminated with a prayer from the KWU Saikul block leader.
