Imphal, June 20 2023:
There is no point in Manipur remaining a part of India if the Central leaders still don't take the situation here seriously even when many of the State's MLAs have rushed to New Delhi, said leaders of different leading organisations during a sit in protest at Keishampat Keisham Leikai Community Hall, today.
The sit in protest was jointly organised by Nupi Samaj, Chingmi Tammi, AMKIL, AMPFA, Eechal, UPF, NLANL, NIPCO, Mapi Council, CADA, Echel, UPACO, Thoubal Ima, ANUL, NIMPAL and another student body under the aegis of COCOMI.
Speaking to media persons, AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi Leima said that they decided to stage the joint protest demonstration in the face of the negligence shown by the Centre and the Manipur Government to resolve the conflict between two sections of people in the State.
Reminding that Manipur was once an independent kingdom, Nganbi Leima said that people of Manipur now feel betrayed by the way in which the Centre is responding to the strife gripping the State since May 3 .
Further stating that they want liberation of Manipur as the concern shown by the Indian Government for the State at one of its darkest periods is demoralising, she said they (the women leaders) will nonetheless be at the forefront to protect the unity and integrity of Manipur.
What is the point of Manipur being a part of India if the Central leaders are not going to listen to the voice of the people, Nganbi Leima asked and added that the mothers of Manipur will not spare any attempt to disintegrate the State with or without the help of the Centre.
Urging the MLAs at New Delhi to unite and make their stand on Manipur's integrity clear to the Central leaders, Nganbi Leima added that these MLAs must understand the sentiment of the people and work accordingly.
The Indian Government not being able to control the Kuki militants who have been hunting civilians and burning houses is questionable, she continued and claimed that the violence in Manipur is a case of foreign aggression.
She also expressed disappointment over MLAs making groups in New Delhi to meet the Central leaders and asked them (the MLAs) to return home if they cannot unite even at this crucial hour.
"If the Centre couldn't control the militants then let us fight them with whatever we can wield," she said and asked how the mothers will live in peace when sons and daughters are dying out there.
