Imphal, June 20 2023:
Even as a section of people has been demanding imposition of President's Rule (PR) in strife torn Manipur, Keishamthong Constituency MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam has said that Article 356 is anti-democracy and he doesn't support it.
President's Rule refers to the suspension of a State Government and the imposition of direct rule of the Centre.
The Central Government takes direct control of the State in question and the Governor becomes its Constitutional head.
Nishikant was quite categoric when he made the remark during a TV chat on India Today hosted by Rajdeep Sardesai yesterday as he elaborated that the Government can always employ another method to bring the situation in Manipur under control and overcome the trust deficit between the parties in conflict.
He continued that trust deficit among the people can be overcome by placing the right forces wherever the trouble is/are especially at foothills to control the miscreants.
If people are not happy with the conduct of the Assam Rifles then the Government can deploy Border Security Force (BSF) or other Central security forces, Nishikant added.
About the demand seeking resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Nishikant said that he only supports the BJP Government in Manipur as an independent MLA.
The Government, however, needs to be proactive to protect lives and properties.
