Heirangoithong locals confiscate tobacco products, incinerated

Imphal, June 20 2023: In a strong display of opposition to tobacco consumption, locals predominantly women in the Heirangoithong area seized and destroyed a mini truck loaded with tobacco products imported from Mayang-Imphal yesterday afternoon.

During a routine random vehicle check conducted by the vigilant locals in connection with the ongoing unrest, a large stash of tobacco products was discovered in a TATA Magic mini-truck.

Eventually the items were confiscated by the locals who were determined to take a stand against the detrimental effects of tobacco and set ablaze.

Following the destruction of the goods, the driver of the mini-truck, along with the vehicle, was handed over to the local police for further necessary action.

Notably, the State government had banned tobacco products a few years ago.
