Imphal, June 20 2023:
The Kanglei Salai Apunba Lup (KSAL) took a jibe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the party engage in damage control mode using some "mere" functionaries after a militant leader made an explosive disclosure regarding a poll deal struck between the militant group and the party.
In a press release, KSAL asked what has pulled back the State Government, who was once very active in pulling up and arresting many for some comments and remarks on social media platforms, from arresting the militant leader who had a very damning claim against the party recently.
It is also very ironic to see State unit vice president Asnikumar and spokesperson Elangbam Johnson jumping into the matter and do the face-saving work for the party when the matter is way beyond their comprehension and was done at the National stage, the statement said.
If the claim is actually unfounded and has no bearing, then what is stopping the Government or the BJP from taking up necessary action against the man concerned.
The Government's inaction will only prove a setback and render people to lose faith in the leading party, it said.
KSAL also took heavily on leaders of civil society organisations in the State who once stood for the unity and the integrity of the State and spearheaded the fight against many social issues but do something opposite once they enter politics.
It is now evident how politicians, family of militant leaders or backed by militants, have blatantly stood for disintegration of the State, noted KSAL.
Asking whether elected MLAs can openly bat or lobby for disintegration of the State, KSAL asked why the BJP-led Government cannot take action or ascertain who are these separatist MLAs and who are behind them till date.
There is no reason for the already apprehensive people to not believe the disclosure of the poll deal at this critical juncture.
The efforts by some "mere" party functionaries and their clarification can only be taken as an attempt to mislead people and an act of open disregard.
KSAL also warned Ministers and MLAs to refrain from irresponsible remarks, political drama, mudslinging and rhetoric when the State is on the brink of breaking into pieces as people are keenly observing them.
Don't try to play hero or fool people with pretentious and honey coated remarks during these times and try to walk with common people when they cannot do anything while in power, it said.
The Legislators should be committed and brave enough to lay down their lives for the sake of the people and the State's integrity, it said while adding people will be proud and remember them for eternity if they stick to their commitment.
KSAL and people stand for upholding the integrity of the State and representatives, leaders of political parties should work and act responsibly, it added.
