Protest meet condemns threat to O Joy

A protest meet held on Monday at Kakwa Huidrom Leikai with the participation of many prominent leaders and representatives of CSOs has strongly denounced the threat directed to veteran politician Okram Joy.
Chaired by Langthabal Kendra Block Congress Committee president L Nabachandra, the meet discussed and condemned the threat.
The protest meet unequivocally condemned the threat to O Joy and called for a thorough investigation by competent authorities.
Speakers highlighted O Joy's commitment to democratic principles, emphasising his welcoming stance towards debate, discussion, and dialogue.
The meet deemed the threat as a cowardly act by individuals lacking democratic ethos.
It also underscored the importance of constructive criticism from the opposition in a parliamentary democracy and warned against undermining the role of the opposition, stating that a democracy without robust opposition could risk devolving into a form of dictatorship.
The meet expressed solidarity with O Joy and acknowledged his contributions as a veteran politician.
A collective appeal was also made to the unidentified people responsible for the threat, urging them not to repeat such actions in the future.
The meet concluded with a resolute message against any form of undemocratic behaviour, reaffirming their commitment to democratic values and the importance of fostering healthy political discourse in Manipur.
