Meeting condemns threat calls to O Joy

Imphal, November 22 2023:
A special meeting was held today at Kakwa Huidrom Leikai to discuss the recent issue of threat calls to veteran politician and former Minister Okram Joy Singh by some unidentified persons.
The meeting was attended by L Nabachandra, president Langthabal Kendra BCC; Leimajam Roshan, ZP Langthabal; Th Guneshwar, Pradhan, Oinam Thingel GP; A Sharat Singh, ex-Pradhan; and social worker S Rajen Singh as presidium members.
Representatives of different organisations, Meira Paibis and people of Langthabal AC also took part in the meeting, said a release jointly signed by L Nabachandra, Leimajam Roshan, Th Guneshwar, A Sharat Singh and S Rajen Singh.
At the very outset, the meeting unanimously condemned the threat calls to veteran politician O Joy Singh by some unidentified persons and demanded the authorities concerned to take appropriate actions against the culprits.
The meeting termned the threat calls as 'cowardly and handiwork of some people who do not understand the role of the Opposition in the Parliamentary System of Democracy' .
It was also observed that the 'Opposition is the real life-blood of democracy and the Parliamentary system of democracy without the criticism from the Opposition may be reduced to dictatorship and the Parliament & State Legislature may become a mere debating society' .
The meeting further extended solidarity to the veteran politician and his family, and urged all concerned to not repeat such acts in the future.
Sagolsem ongbi Ashakiran, treasurer Langthabal Kendra Meira Paibi Co-ordinating Committee; Moirangthem ongbi Ibecha Devi, president Langthabal Kendra Meira Paibi Co-ordinating Committee; Ksh Medha Devi, convenor Kakwa Huidrom Leikai Meira Paibi; Th Guneshwar; Leimajam Roshan; social workers Laimayum Shantikumar Sharma and Huidrom ongbi Bilashini also spoke at the meeting.
