Upon learning that an 11 year old girl was suffering from renal failure at Leimaram Relief Camp, Relief Committee JNIMS made arrangements for Laishram Deviya's treatment under the care of Dr Rajesh Waikhom of JNIMS Hospital from May 24 onwards.
However, in an unfortunate turn of events, Deviya lost her father, Laishram Ningthem, to an illness on August 27 as she continued to battle for her life while sheltering at the relief camp.
Her mother, Laishram (Ongbi) Sanathoi and her younger brother are her only family now, continued the Relief Committee chairman.
Further, he pointed out the poor financial condition of Deviya's family and added that the funds she was provided under Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) scheme is fast dwindling.
More funds from the scheme cannot be availed until the health card is renewed in April, 2024, he informed.
In light of such financial difficulties, Thoidingjam Bon conveyed that JNIMS Director Laishram Deben has assured to bear the costs of kidney matching tests that will be conducted outside the State once a kidney donor is found for the girl.
Stating that these tests cost roughly Rs 40,000/50,000 he expressed gratitude towards the JNIMS Director on behalf of Relief Committee JNIMS.
Highlighting other financial aid extended to the ailing girl, Thoidingjam Bom shared that 59 individuals and three groups had donated a total of Rs 68,587 .
The groups are DM College of Science 1996-99 Batch (Rs 20,000), Comet School Class XII Batch 2022-23 (Rs 10,000) and Special Regular English Higher Secondary School Nambol Sabal Leikai (Rs 15,000) .
Urging people to extend financial help to Laishram Deviya, the Relief Committee JNIMS chairman has also shared the details of a GPay account for the public to make donations - GPay phone no 9856152727, user name Thoidingjam Sunil Khuman.
"It is Deviya's dream to beat her illness and go to school with her friends once again.
Please help breathe new life into this young girl", pleaded Thoidingjam Bon.
Moreover, in a bid to help Deviya undergo a kidney transplant operation, Manipur Wakhal Manaba Tengbang Lup handed over a sum of Rs 40,800 to her mother this evening.
The ailing child's mother was also present at today's press briefing.
