1st District Level Jr Indigenous Wrestling Championship begins at Senapati

Senapati, November 22 2023:
The 1st District Level Jr Indigenous Wrestling Championship commenced on Wednesday at Astro Turf Ground, Senapati.
The event is organised by the Senapati District Wrestling Association, Manipur (SDWAM) in collaboration with the Red Shied Division of the Indian Army.
Prior to the competition, the vice president of SDWAM noted that the championship sought to promote the indigenous game among the youth of the area, and that Senapati district is the only hill district with a lot of interest in the indigenous game.
The SDWAM president then asked for cooperation from all in promoting the indigenous game to a higher level.
He also asked the players to give their all during the game and to keep game spirit up throughout the tournament.
According to the Red Shield Division, the reason for supporting the indigenous game is that the division wants to promote the game, revive it, and instill the game spirit in the youth.
115 wrestlers aged 20 and under are competing in the championship.
The second and third rounds of the tournament will take place on the second day, while the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will take place on the final day, November 24.High-ranking officials from the Indian army and civil government are expected to attend the valedictory ceremony.
