Imphal, October 14 2023:
After suffering the Seven Years' Devastation during its time as an independent kingdom, Manipur is now again at the throes of suffering another devastation.
Amid this, it would be best for all to avoid turning against each other and resolve all misunderstandings to prevent another devastation from sweeping the state, said veteran politician O Joy.
He made the statement on the sidelines of offering tarpan (tributes) to the heroes of the Seven Years' Devastation including Maharaj Gambhir Singh, Nara Singh Maharaj and Sana Hirachandra as well as all those who have died during the ongoing conflict, at Leishang Hiden, Canchipur on Saturday.
The solemn function was also attended by former minister L Jayantakumar, former MLAs Bijoy Koijam and RK Anand, and people of Langthabal and surrounding areas.
Joy said that the prevailing conflict has shown the alienation of Manipur from the Indian Constitution.
The lack of support and action on the part of the central government has led to the loss of many lives, he rued.
Joy then stressed the need of collecting historical evidences and preserving them in the museums to inform the future generations of the roles played by the then kings and other heroes in rescuing Manipur from the clutches of then Burmese invasion.
He hoped that the tributes offered at Leishang Hiden will inspire the people of the state to unite and defend the integrity of Manipur, while also helping to restore peace and tranquility in the state.
