Imphal, October 14 2023:
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Churachandpur has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Pramot Singh, chief of Meitei Leepun.
The court has directed the SP of Churachandpur district to ensure timely execution of this order, returnable by November 9 .
The investigating officer mentioned that Pramot could not be arrested presently as his address falls under the jurisdiction of Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district.
Despite sending a message to the OC of Lamphel PS on September 9 to take necessary action, including conducting house search under Section 41A of the CrPC, there was no response, even after a reminder was sent.
Pramot was served a notice to appear in person before the investigating officer at Churachandpur PS on October 2, 2023, at 10:00 am.
As he did not turned up, the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Churachandpur, consequently issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Pramot.
On July 8, the Churachandpur district police registered an FIR in response to a complaint filed by Kuki Students' Organisation, concerning online tweets and comments made by both Pramot and the Meitei Leepun.
Additionally, comments made by Pramot during an interview with Karan Thapar on The Wire on June 6 this year were also included in the complaint.
Pramot is alleged to have made statements suggesting annihilation of the Kuki community in Manipur, which was strongly protested by the Kuki-Zo community.
The FIR against Pramot includes charges such as criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between groups, intentional insult with the intent to provoke breach of peace, and criminal intimidation.
