Imphal, October 14 2023:
Abungnikhu Village Authority (AVA), Chandel has demanded that authority concerned to take action over stealing of timber planks which were in custody of Kakching Lamkhai volunteers.
In a release issued Saturday, AVA chief Ts Behlung Anal informed that a truck (MNO282264) driven by Md Rahim of Sora which was transporting 400 cubic of timber planks belonging to Lh Hosanary, wife of (late) Ts Venson of Abungnikhu village, Chandel district was stopped at Kakching Lamkhai by Meetei volunteers around 3 pm on October 9 .
Two leaders namely, CNPO executive Sk Sunny Lamkang of Soland village, Chandel and one Kakching Lamkhai Volunteers leader Sambu had demanded Rs 2,00,00 from owner of the planks for not having permit from the CNPO.
During negotiations both the parties agreed and settled at Rs 20,000 .
However, despite payment of the agreed amount the truck was asked to halt a night at Kakching Lamkhai at the risk of Sambu, it claimed.
AVA contended that out of 400 cubic of timber planks, 41 cubic was missing, after which the owner complained to the CNPO leader Sk Sunny and Sambu, but both of them could not give any positive result till today.
Therefore, authorities concerned must look into the matter and settle it within a short period of time and book the culprit, it reiterated, while warning that if the matter is not solved within a week's time then different modes of agitation and protest will follow for which Sk Sunny and Sambu should be held accountable in case of any untoward incident during the agitation.
