Imphal, October 14 2023:
It was BJP MLAs who talked about imposition of President's Rule and replacement of the incumbent chief minister (CM) for restoring peace in the state well before Congress party raised the demand, stated Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman advocate Rabi Khan.
Before Congress party pitched for imposition of PR and removal of CM with the stated objective to pave the way for return of peace in Manipur, some BJP ministers and MLAs raised the same demand, Rabi said and claimed to have enough evidences on where and when they expressed disenchantment over inept handling of the crisis situation.
Reiterating that imposition of PR and removal of CM to restore peace are collective decision of the 10 like-minded national political parties including Congress, he said and questioned as to why BJP is so fearful when the demand is raised by the opposition parties.
While asserting that the 10 political parties will continue to raise the demand for PR and removal or replacement of CM, the spokesman said it is natural to bat call for PR and CM's ouster if the government is able to bring peace and normalcy.
He then questioned as to how much time the government is seeking to bring peace and normalcy when students are unable to attend normal classes and people are living without internet service.
According to Rabi Khan, the 10 political parties will continue to demand PR and removal or replacement of CM and advised the police to protect villagers in the fringe areas instead of targeting leaders and members of the 10 political parties.
Reacting sharply to BJP's allegation that Congress Working Committee's (CWC) resolution on PR imposition and removal of CM was akin to fuelling the crisis, Rabi Khan asserted that negligence of BJP central leaders on Manipur issue was exposed from their remark that the Centre would not consider the CWC's resolution.
Expressing concern over the alleged utilisation of 30 vehicles of state police department in search operation to nab youth and Congress leaders who took part in the rally held in Imphal on Saturday, he said people of the state would have appreciated the police department if the large number of.
police personnel were deployed in fringe area to protect armed villagers from the onslaught of Kuki militants.
The press conference was also attended by MPCC spokesperson S Shyarhacharan and Manipur State Mahila Congress president Mutum Sarma.
