Governor reaches out to IDPs

Governor Anusuiya Uikey visited and met Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) staying in four relief camps in Imphal East district and distributed relief materials yesterday.
The Governor first visited Yambem High School relief camp in Andro A/C where she met IDPs who have been taking shelter in three relief camps namely; Yambem High School, PHC Yambem and the MLA's residence, Yambem and enquired about their issues.
She heard their grievances and assured them to extend all possible assistance from the administration as well as from the Raj Bhavan.
Speaking to the IDPs, the Governor said, with the support and cooperation from the people, normalcy has been returning slowly to the State.
She said, all efforts are being put in by the Central and State Governments to restore normalcy and peace.
Adequate and elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure safety and security of the people.
Large numbers of security personnel have been deployed and security has been beefed up in sensitive areas throughout the State to prevent any further untoward incidents further, Anusuiya Uikey said.
Stating that the Government will compensate for those who have lost their homes, belongings etc, the Governor said, as for temporary measures, shelter homes are being constructed and if the situation improves, people will be shifted to their respective places.
Referring to a Supreme Court order regarding protection of religious places and homes left by IDPs, she said, strict action will be taken up against those who occupied such places or homes.
The State Home department has also issued an order in this regard.
She appealed to the people to cooperate with the administration in bringing back peace and normalcy in the State.
The Governor directed the district administration to initiate skill training programmes in the camp and asked the IDPs to admit their children in nearby schools.
As the President of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Manipur State, the Governor distributed relief packages comprising blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen sets and hygiene kits to the IDPs.
She distributed Rs 1,000 each to pregnant women, lactating mothers and patients with serious ailments in the camp.
She also handed over eatables and blankets to the children from her side.
Later, the Governor went to Yambem High School Girls Hostel relief camp and interacted with IDPs there.
She enquired about their grievances and assured to extend all assistance from the administration as well as from the Raj Bhavan.
She donated a sum of Rs 25,000 to help pay transportation charges of school going children in the camp as the families are finding it difficult to send their wards to schools.
The Governor also handed over Rs 1,000 each to pregnant women, lactating mothers and patients.
She distributed relief packages to the IDPs, and eatables and blankets to the children staying there.
