Imphal, October 14 2023:
On the last day of Langban month, United Committee Manipur (UCM) offered tributes to all those who lost their lives in the ethnic conflict, at The Great June Uprising Memorial Complex, Kekrupat, here, on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam contended that the demand for Kukiland will remain a pipedream while declaring that no foreigner can realise dream of disintegrating Manipur and setting up another state/country as long as UCM exists.
UCM will give exact and appropriate response to anyone trying to threaten the unity of the state, he asserted.
Stating that the demand for separate administration for the Kuki-Chin people raised by the ten Kuki MLAs to the union home ministers is unjustifiable, the UCM president said that the demand led to the escalation of the current conflict leading to many deaths and suffering.
All of these have been caused by the ten Kuki MLAs.
As such, the state government should disqualify the ten MLAs at the earliest failing which people will naturally suspect that the government is endorsing the Kuki MLAs' demand for separate administration.
If peace and normalcy is to be restored in the state, the demand of Kuki narco-terrorists need to be withdrawn, in addition to putting an end to all poppy cultivation in the hill areas and illegal encroachments in forest areas along with implementation of NRC.
Otherwise, UCM will not participate in any peace process.
Furthermore, the government's resettlement plans need to be reviewed with regard to suitability of the locations, he said, adding that all resettlements should be initiated only after proper bonds are established.
