Linthoingambi & Hemanjit killing: Protests staged seeking justice

Members and volunteers of AIMS, DESAM, KSA, SUK, MSF and another student body as well as meira paibi activists on Sunday staged sit-in protests seeking justice for the two students Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit, who are presumed killed by Kuki militants in captivity, and condemning the excessive use of force by the security personnel on the student protestors.
Sit-in protests, rallies, candle lighting and human chain formations were organised at Naharup Thongkhong, UNACCO School, Meitram gate, Thambalkhong Lisham Leirak, Elangbam Leikai Leirak Macha Machin, Yumnam Patlou, Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Sagolband Nepra Menjor Mamang Leikai, Tera Keithel, Lukram Leirak Machin, Tera Tongbram Leikai, Yambem Leirak, Thengbaijam Leirak, Loukham Leirak, Yengkhom Leirak, Ramji Kabui Khul, Khamnam Keithel, Moirang Hanuba community hall, Takyel Kolom Leikai by Kindergarten Montessori School (former school of Hemanjit), Heinoupok, Langjing Achouba Maning Leikai, Patsoi Part 1 Keithel and Patsoi Part 3 community hall by local organisations and institutions.
Similar protests were also held at Naothingkhong Pakhangba Gate, Salam Mamang Leikai, Taobungkhok Mayai Leikai, Naorem Leikai, Achanbigei Laishram ground, Bishnupur Bazar, Moirang Lamkhai, Uripok Cheirap, Uripok Huidrom Leikai, Naoremthong Epathoukhok, Kongpal Chanam Leikai, Khurai Chaithabi Leirak, Nachou Panthong community hall, Kha Potshangbam community hall, Nachou Parking, Toupokpi Khongnang Makhong, Lamboi Khongnangkhong Keithel, Yairipok Angtha Mamang Leikai, Yairipok Bishnunaha Chabungbam Mamang Leikai, Samaram village, Thokchom, Charangpat Mayai Leikai, Athokpam Khunou, Khangabok Part -II Mayai Leikai Lamlong Keithel, Athokpam Keithel, Yairipok Bishnunaha, Yairipok Keithel, Khongjom Lamkhai community hall, Sekmaijin Awang Leikai, Kakching Khunou Thongam Ward No 1 community hall, Wangoo Tampha Lairembi Laibung, Wangoo and Irabot Park, Kakching Keithel.
During these protests, the agitators held placards and chanted slogans demanding swift punishment to perpetrators of the heinous crime, resolution of the present conflict in' state, secure the future of students, unity of indigenous communities, root out Kuki narco-terrorists, implement NRC, detect & deport illegal immigrants, government of India should give up divisive politics, stop violence in Manipur, etc.
Speaking to media persons during the sit-in protest held at Takyel Kolom Leikai on Sunday, Hemanjit's father Phijam Ibungobi expressed sadness that many including students have been injured during the protests seeking justice for Linthoingambi & Hemanjit and prayed for speedy recovery of all.
He also appealed to all to extend support in recovering the bodies of Linthoingambi and Hemanjit.
Meanwhile, sportspersons staging sit-in protest at Bishnupur Forest Gate on Sunday which was organised by Bishnupur District Olympic Association decided to return their medals they had won in state, national and international tournaments opposing the brutal murders of the two students.
Speaking during the protest, Association's president W Chaobalal Singh informed that state's sportspersons are demanding restoration of peace in state.
He also opined that weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu did not get any medal at the ongoing Asian Games due to distressed caused by the prevailing situation in state.
