Naga Forum decries firing by Kuki militants

Makhan Kanglatongbi Naga Forum has expressed strong condemnation over indiscriminate firing from sophisticated weapons in Makhan Kanglatongbi area by Kuki militants and traumatising the residents, women and children in particular.
According to Forum's media and publicity, on September 29 stray bullets hit the roofs of one Ab Mahembui, son of late Ramkiuthonang of Makhan Naga Village and at the school building of Mothers International School at Lower Makhan.
Stating that affecting innocent school children is deeply concerning, the Forum lamented that Makhan Kanglatongbi area, which was once a peaceful neighbourhood and educational hub, has been transformed into a war zone, disrupting educational and livelihood activities.
Recalling similar incidents, the Forum said a house belonging to a Naga widow was reduced to ashes by Kukis on June 18 at Leimakhong.
On May 27 Kuki militants came to lower Makhan and Nam-dilong, Kanglatongbi village and fired from automatic weapons whereby infants, women, aged citizens, and sick people were frightened and woken up in the middle of the night.
On July 14, Kuki militants snatched vegetables and Ngari (fermented fish) from one Naga lady from Gamgiphai in Kangpokpi district.
On September 16 around 8 pm one innocent Naga Silinang Abonmai age (29 yrs) of Ireng Naga was brutally assaulted by SoO.

While condemning the attacks on Naga community, the Forum, representing over 7 tribes of the Naga community in the area cautioned individuals or organisations responsible for such firing to consider the consequences of their actions as they have the potential to escalate tensions and harm innocent lives Peace and dialogue should be the way forward to resolve the situation, the Forum maintained.
