Awareness prog on Poshan Maah held at Chandel

In line with the observance of Rashtriya Poshan Maah, Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Field Office, Chandel in collaboration with ICDS Cell, Chandel District organised a one-day Integrated Communication Outreach programme on 'Poshan Maah' at Sinadam Village in Chandel district on Tuesday.
The programme was organised Under the theme, "Tribal Focused Nutrition Sensitization (Nutrition-Rich India, Educated India, and Empowered India)" .
The month of September is designated as National Nutrition Month in India, also known as Rashtriya Poshan Maah or the National Nutrition Mission with the goal to combat under-nutrition among children below six years of age, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
The programme is now in its sixth year, having been launched by PM Narendra Modi in March, 2018.Speaking as chief guest of the function, Chandel DC Mothel Saka highlighted the significance of observing the programme and urged the participants to help make Chandel a nutrition rich district.
He also called upon everyone to grow nutrient-rich food plants in the district.
As resource person Chandel Block supervisor Ts Hringnary Anal spoke on the benefits of locally available, low-cost nutrient rich foods and encouraged young moth -ers and adolescent girls to give priorities in consuming such foods.
She also spoke on energy rich foods, protective foods, body building foods and medicinal foods.
Presiding over the function, Khengjoi Block CDPO Pipa Tungdar Maring stressed on why nutrition is a must for children under six years of age, and also for pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
In his keynote address, FPA, CBC, Chandel field officer Mathew Sk Bengam said that organising such awareness programmes by CBC will continue for the benefit of the society, state and the nation.
The programme was also attended by Chandel Block supervisor Martha Saka, ADP Cell, Chandel district senior consultant Dearson Tontang, and Sinadam village assistant chief Sh Kohrin.
It also witnessed large participation from women and children of the village and surrounding areas.
A spot quiz competition and a public rally to spread awareness of the significance of Poshan Maah were carried out in the adjoining areas.
Stalls exhibiting energy rich foods, protective foods, body building foods and medicinal foods were also displayed during the programme for the benefit of participants.
