Ukhrul, January 10 2024: Emphasising the changing times, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry minister Khashim Vashum has stated that the tide has now turned for women to move forward with confidence and strive for success in life.

He was speaking as chief guest of the inaugural ceremony of the 75 years platinum Jubilee cum 57th General Conference, Sports, Cultural and Literary Meet of the Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL) at Kuirei village under Chingai subdivision in northern Ukhrul on Wednesday.

Motivating over a hundred women participants, the minister urged the RKL to provide a platform to inspire women to showcase the talents and achievements of its members in the fields of sports, culture, and literature.

Vashum recognised that there has been a significant change in the perception of women in society.

"Gone are the days when talents and capabilities of women were underestimated.

But that era has gone.

Today, women are breaking barriers and making their marks in various fields, be it sports, academics or politics," he reminded and advised girl students to take inspiration from such successful women and work towards achieving their own goals and dreams.

Highlighting that women play a crucial role in contributing to the development of their community, he urged them to be at the forefront and take charge of their lives.

He also stressed the importance of educating girls and providing them with equal opportunities as boys, stating that an educated and confident woman can bring about positive change in society.

The minister reminded women that they are no longer bound by societal norms and expectations, but rather have the freedom to choose their own paths and create their own success stories.

"With the right attitude and hard work, women can continue to break barriers and become an example of success for future generations," he exhorted.

Taking the opportunity, Vashum also emphasised the importance of using such celebrations to bring about positive change among students.

"Such celebrations should not just be a time for merriment, but also a time for reflection and action," he said and stressed that the contributions of the forefathers would be rendered meaningless if youngsters do ) not use this opportunity to make positive changes in life.

Giving advice to students, minister Vashum highlighted that it is crucial for students to learn the value of using resources wisely and managing their time efficiently.

He urged the students to avoid wastihg their precious time on unnecessary activities and instead focus on their studies and personal development.

He further suggested students to stay away from harmful habits like smoking and alcohol consumption and instead channel their energies towards studies and more productive activities.

Vashum further reminded that Raphei elders have played in shaping the region, adding that through their dedication in religion, education, and the Naga political movement, they have set an example for the younger generation to follow.

He encouraged Raphei youngsters to follow in the footsteps of their forefathers and carry on their legacy.

The minister emphasised that the community's progress and growth are dependent on the young generation and to continue the good work of their elders.

Meanwhile, in a philanthropic effort and dedication towards education, minister Khashim Vashum declared his decision to sponsor 50 impoverished students from the Raphei region to study at the Scholars Pakshimi School, Ukhrul for the present academic session.

The total cost of sponsorship for 50 students at the school would be Rs 1.75 lakh.

Ukhrul deputy commissioner Zuringla Kengoo and Kamjong ADC/ADM Jain Huileng also attended the inaugural ceremony as guests of honour.

Addressing the students, DC Zuringla emphasised the importance of hard work, perseverance, endurance, and discipline in achieving success in life.

She urged the young minds to make the most of this opportunity to learn and grow, stating that the conference should serve as a platform for the students to exchange knowledge and ideas, broadening their horizons and taking a step forward in life.

In his speech, Jain Huileng shared his views on the progress made in the Raphei region over the years.

He called for an introspection to see if the region is heading towards a positive or negative direction.

He stressed the need for change and innovation to make Raphei a land of opportunities for the youngsters.

It was also a historic day for RKL as, Machung Pheiray,.

the oldest living former president of the students' union, released the highly anticipated RKL Souvenir, which is a significant representation of the values, traditions, and achievements of the Raphei and its people.
