Minister vows probe into oil spillage

Imphal, January 10 2024:
Public panicked as oil spillage flowed into the Leimakhong Makha Loukhong (canal) on Wednesday evening.
The spillage was detected by villagers of Kanto Sabal.
However, an order issued by secretary to chief minister N Geoffrey stated that the leakage of heavy fuel from Leimakhong Power Station has led to spill-over of the discharge along the streams passing through Kanto Sabal, Sekmai, etc.
Late evening, Forest, Environment and Power minister Thongam Biswajit along with social welfare minister Heikham Dingo and PHE minister Leishangthem Susindro rushed to Kanto Sabal and Khurkhul and inspected the spillage.
Minister Biswajit assured of investigating the incident of leakage of heavy fuel.
If there is any wrong doing then all those involved will be punished accordingly, he affirmed.
The minister further stated that the oil spillage has been successfully diverted from flowing towards Imphal River and Nambul River using excavators with the assistance of Sekmai police station personnel and people of Khurkhul.
