Four fire-wood collectors remain traceless

Imphal, January 10 2024:
Kuki militants launched attack on villagers in Kumbi Haotak area under Kumbi police station in Bishnupur district on Wednesday while four Meetei men who went to collect firewood in a forest area early Wednesday morning remain traceless till late evening.
According to a police source, Kuki militants fired two bombs and rained bullets towards Meetei villagers working at paddyfields in Kumbi Haotak area.
After harvesting paddy rice, the villagers were tilling the fields for planting vegetables but the sudden attack including use of bombs forced the villagers to flee from the paddyfields while panicked villagers abandoned their houses and took shelter at safer locations.
Firing from Kuki militants stopped only when security forces deployed nearby retaliated.
There is no report of casualty, the police souce said.
Meanwhile, four civilians from Wangoo Terakhong Akasoi area under Kumbi police station in Bishnupur district remain traceless after they went out to collect firewood.
The missing men are identified as Oinam Romen, Ahanthem Dara, Thoudam Ibomcha and Thoudam Anand.
All of them are from Akasoi Ward No 7 and they used to collect firewood from Mapal Lok every day.
