Imphal, January 10 2024:
All India Congress Committee (AICC) national secretary Szarita Laitphlang has questioned why the government of Manipur is so terrified of Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Iodo Nyay Yatra'.
On Wednesday, Szarita arrived at Hapta Kangjeibung to inspect the proposed venue ahead of kick-starting the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' on January 14.However, the police personnel did not allow her to enter the proposed venue as no permission had been given by any authority concerned.
Talking to newspersons in this regard, Szarita questioned why the state government is refusing to give permission to Rahul Gandhi to kick off the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' from Hapta Kangjeibung on January 14.She further asked why the government is so terrified of Rahul Gandhi's 'Yatra'.
She pointed out that on January 2, MPCC president K Meghachandra had submitted a request to the relevant authorities for granting permission for the upcoming event but to no avail till date.
The Yatra is neither politically motivated nor intended to aggravate any situation, but a walk for peace and justice, she asserted, while urging the people to participate in the same.
Szarita then said that Rahul Gandhi wants to kick off the Yatra from Manipur mainly because it is a beautiful state and also the state has been embroiled in an unfortunate conflict for the past few months.
The conflict in Manipur is known to the entire country and thus, the people from other states want to extend solidary with the people of Manipur through this Yatra.
As such, the state government should grant permission for the same, she asserted, while mentioning that the Yatra, which will be kicked off from Manipur, will pass through 15 states and culminate in Maharashtra.
