Imphal, January 10 2024:
Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has said that Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Moreh president Victor and Kuki Inpi Chandel leaders should be arrested for raising the demand for withdrawal of state forces from Moreh.
According to a COCOMI statement, 3 Corps commander Lt Gen Sahi visited Moreh on January 9 and took stock of the prevailing law & order situation in the border town besides meeting some local leaders.
During the meeting, HTC president Victor contended that no state police personnel should be deployed in Moreh and no Meetei police officer posted in the border town.
Strongly condemning HTC president's demand raised to the 3 Corps commander, COCOMI expressed that Victor's remark is self-declaration about serious breach of law and order in Moreh town, subsequently necessitating deployment of law enforcement agencies in adequate numbers.
Victor's insistence has made it clear that illegal immigrants from Myanmar particularly narco-terrorists and those supporting them intent to dictate terms in the border town.
Myanmar-based terrorists and frontal organisations supporting the terrorists are launching attacks on state forces deployed in Moreh town with the sole agenda of creating chaos and violence so that they could control the strategic commercial hub and make it their own.
Even as the Myanmar-based narco-terrorists are attacking the state forces with highly sophisticated weapons including rocket launchers, central paramilitary forces deployed in the border town for a long time remain as silent spectator and their attitude deepens suspicion among people about their role in the on going violence, the COCOMI statement said.
It also called upon state and central governments to control the Myanmar-based terrorists and Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists operating in Manipur along with their frontal organisations and mouthpieces like CoTU, ITLF, HTC and KIM Moreh while Indian security forces should also change their attitude towards SoO outfits.
