B.Sc (Hons) Natural Farming degree programme launched

Dr Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, Department of Agriculture Research and Education (DARE) & Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi launched the B.Sc (Hons) Natural Farming degree programme at the College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai, Meghalaya under Central Agricultural University (CAU, Imphal) yesterday.
Launching the programme, Dr Himanshu Pathak said that the day will remain as a historic day and Central Agricultural University (Imphal) will be remembered forever for starting the Bachelor of Science (Hons.) Natural Farming degree programme in its five constituent colleges, said a statement by the college.
He also assured to provide all round support to develop the College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai as a world class college.
Students were advised to set their goals which must give them an opportunity to serve the society.
On the occasion, a Natural Farming Block in the Administrative cum Academic Building of the college was also inaugurated by Dr Himanshu Pathak.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal said that a new initiative in the form of introduction of natural farming in the course curricula at undergraduate level has been planned by ICAR to reorient agriculture graduates for learning our ancestral agricultural knowledge.
The agri-graduates in the field of natural farming have to be made ambassadors with innovative thought processes and capable to fostering social and cultural and economic growth, he added.
Dr SK Chaudhury, DDG, Natural Resource Management of ICAR, New Delhi also addressed the gathering and appreciated the proposal of approach for Centre of Excellence in Jhum farming.
Natural Farming is a very useful course and it is suitable as the region is organic by default, added the statement.
