LNU appeals to speed up bridge work at Koide Biisho

Senapati, April 27 2023: Lepaona Naga Union (LNU) has appealed to all concerned to accelerate process and works related to restoration of the Barak Bailey Bridge at Koide Biisho before the onset of the monsoon season.

In a release, LNU president V Thaisii said that construction of Barak Bailey Bridge at Koide Biisho has reached a critical stage where further delays could cause significant setbacks and impact negatively on the lives of many villages in the district.

The bridge is a vital link connecting more than 44 Poumai villages to market, government offices and health institutions in the district, the LNU leader said while requesting that the project be given top priority so that construction works can be completed before the onset of monsoon season.

The bridge is essential not only for the residents but also for the growth and development of the surrounding areas, besides it connects neighbouring districts, he added.

The Union also appealed to the chief executive engineer to release necessary fund from his emergency fund as promised earlier.

Mention may be made that paddy field and land owners issued a public notice on Thursday to restrict all kinds of movements along their paddy fields with the arrival of cultivation season after April 30.The temporary diversion of road passes through some portion of private land owners along the Barak River.

No compensation has been given to the affected land owners after the Bailey Bridge broke down since November last year.

Maram Phaibung Road Development Committee in its statement mentioned that construction works at Diversion Bailey Bridge is in progress with work agency concerned at the spot.

Foundation works of the Bailey bridge is in full progress.

The committee urged all concerned to complete the work process before the onset of the monsoon season.

In the meantime, the committee decried the failure of the department concerned to maintain the PMGSY Phase XI (Maram-Purul Atongba Road covering 22 km).

The work programme Package No MNO6294 (Phase XI) is being funded by the Ministry of Rural Development, with the date of maintenance from February 2, 2021 to February 1, 2026 .

However, it is reported that no maintenance work has been carried out in the area post completion of the road construction leading to formation of many potholes and others.

The committee urged authority concerned to release necessary fund to start maintenance process of the said work programme so as to avoid any untoward incident that may cause due to non-maintenance of the road.
