Imphal, April 24 2024:
On the eve of its 30th Raising Day, which falls on April 25, the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) has extended revolutionary greetings to the people and revolutionary groups fighting for restoration of lost sovereignty of Manipur (Kangleipak) and WESEA region.
On the occasion, KYKL chairman N Oken also sent out a message to the people of Kangleipak and WESEA region on behalf of the outfit and shared his thoughts on the present situation of revolutionary movement in Kangleipak and WESEA region for discussion and deliberation among the public.
While quoting Russian revolutionary leader, theoretician, philosopher and global Marxist movement exponent Lenin, the KYKL chairman said that politics is the most concentrated expression of economics, its generalizations and its culmination.
Politics represents the outer appearance of deeper societal structures encompassing culture, morality, law, religion, philosophy, arts, literature and the economy - a foundation underlying them all.
All the processes governing the society like economic, political, cultural, social and natural are intertwined and will be none existent in isolation.
Among these processes, economic forces hold particular sway and it often drives others.
The Marxist theory underlying Lenin's assertions has evolved through an understanding of macro-history and the laws governing societal change.
However, employing this analytical methodology to grasp the micro-history of a specific locale remains subject to debate and recognizing the reality that even a small spark can ignite significant change is crucial.
With this understanding, economic roots of the present Meitei-Kuki conflict could be dug out when Lenin's theory is applied to the conflict and accordingly placed before the people for discussion and deliberation, Oken said.
According to the chairman, economic unity and dependency among the hills and valley dwellers as well as self-sufficiency that characterized Manipur in the pre-merger era transitioned into a dependent economy post-merger as Manipur's self-sufficiency in economy and food production eroded.
This economic crisis has fuelled the political conflicts plaguing Manipur at present.
The politics of conflict between the two warring communities indeed is exposure of the dependent economy and this kind of politics will disap -pear when dependent economy subsides, Oken observed.
While mulling over the emotional remark by a JNU professor recently that the movement to safeguard territorial integrity of Manipur changed nothing significant in the past 22/23 years since 2021, the chairman said that no significant change is expected in the coming 22/23 years too and rather would witness more worsening situation if the present trend continues.
After 23 years when India completes 100 years of independence, say 2047, Manipur's backbone may even break down.
Accordingly, the primary focus of our political endeavour must be restoration of unity in Manipur and this policy must be carried forward to the future together with the philosophy of the 'idea of Manipur' .
Presently, communities in Manipur are engaged in a senseless violence and pitted against each other.
However, warring communities should resolve the crisis through a comprehensive understanding to mitigate the grim future that awaits us if continues with the conflict.
