Imphal, November 10 2023:
In view of the violence that erupted on May 3 displacing tens of thousands of Manipuris, MaolKeki Foundation (MKF) has announced initiation of a livelihood development programme aimed at supporting the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are now taking shelter in various relief camps.
The programme, dedicated to the memory of late Laishram Dineshchandra Singh of Meitei Langol Leima Khullen Leikai, Imphal West, former nodal officer of the monitoring team of MKF, marks a significant step towards economic self-reliance for those affected by the violence.
Since the outbreak of violence, MKF has been actively engaging in aiding IDPs and extending support to 782 children across 12 relief camps spanning five districts.
As part of ongoing efforts, new supplies, including winter clothing, would be distributed in the coming weeks.
Recognising the urgent need for economic empowerment; MKF has secured funding to launch a comprehensive programme.
The initiative aims to select 50 individuals, with the potential for expansion based on additional funding, from various relief camps.
These individuals will receive basic entrepreneurship training and materials to produce handloom and handicraft products.
The resultant products will be marketed through various channels, with the proceeds directly benefiting the IDPs, fostering sustainable means of income.
The livelihood development programme of MKF serves as a tribute to Dineshchandra, continuing the work initiated during his tenure.
Dineshchandra, who lost his life in a road accident, will be remembered through this programme, shedding light on the importance of road safety and the need for collective responsibility towards ensuring safe driving practices, said the Foundation.
