Imphal, November 10 2023:
In solidarity with suffering of the displaced families across the state, Development Youth Club (DYC), Elangkhanpokpi Popular Youth Club (EPYC), and Elangkhanpokpi Apunba Meira Paibi (EAMP) appealed to residents in their jurisdiction to forgo the celebrations of Ningol Chakkouba festival this year.
A joint statement released by the three civil bodies underscored the pervasive impact of the ongoing crisis, resonating across the entire state.
Numerous families from hill districts and foothill villages are taking refuge in relief camps, enduring hardships exceeding six months.
The statement paid homage to the courage and sacrifice of individuals who, in defending the community and the territorial integrity of Manipur, have lost their lives in the face of the threats posed by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the civic bodies endorsed the call to cancel this year's Ningol Chakkouba.
They urged the residents of Elangkhanpokpi, within their purview, to abstain from partaking in the traditional celebrations.
This act is positioned not only as a symbolic gesture but also as expression of shared responsibility, highlighting commitment to stand in unity with the displaced families bearing the brunt of adversity, the statement added.
The organisations implored residents to redirect their energies towards supporting those in need, foster a spirit Of resilience, compassion, and unity in the face of the ongoing hardships faced by fellow citizens.
