SDSA organises seminar on drug abuse

Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) on Friday organised a seminar on drug abuse titled "Say No to Drugs; Building a Drug-Free District," at Mount Everest College, here.
Gonmei Meithuanlungpou, acting principal of Mount Everest College, emphasised the importance of eradicating ignorance and encouraging future leaders to walk in discipline.
He also mentioned the Bible as the best reference for understanding intoxicants, as they have destroyed lives, families, relationships, talents, and purposes in society.
The seminar is aimed at educating individuals on how to educate others about drug abuse and its impact on students and youth.
ML Kaisungbou, additional SP Senapati, spoke on the origin of the tragic drug history of the late 1980s and early 1990s, stating that drugs alter body functions, physically or psychologically.
According to him, people use drugs due to curiosity, fun, peer pressure, confidence, stress, socialization, or rejection, he said.
The MPS officer urged all to love themselves, be strong in religious foundation, be obedience, and develop hobbies in extra-curricular activities.
Society should have knowledge about drugs, political and public will to eradicate them, and the importance of CSOs, church, and other non-state actors, he added.
Paveine Paulina Y, clinical psychologist DMHP Senapati, talked about psychological interventions on substance use, emphasising the need for interventions and knowledge on the adverse effects of substance use.
She suggested refusal skills, such as saying "No" in peer pressure situations, eye contact, and offering alternatives.
In conclusion, the SDSA's vice-president Robin Kangba urged the gathering to transform awareness into advocacy, making the college a beacon of support and resilience.
.The participants pledged for unwavering stand against drug abuse, educate themselves, seeking help when needed, making informed choices, embracing a life free from drugs, and rejecting those who endanger their lives and dreams.
