Imphal, July 26 2010:
In what is apparently in line with the actions being undertaken by KCP-MTF against Health Minister Ph Parijat and families close to him in the last few days, unidentified armed persons made an abortive attempt to abduct a youth in the wee hours of today.
The young man targeted by the armed persons has been identified as Leishangthem Surchand (23) s/o Tarpon of Nongren Maning Leikai.
According to Tarpon who is also Pradhan of Chingnungkhok Gram Panchayat, three unidentified persons, calling his name, knocked at the door of the room where his children were sleeping at about 1 am today.
To this, womenfolk of the family informed the unidentified persons that Tarpon was not at home and that they may come the following morning.
In the next instant, the armed persons opened a single round of fire in the air and broke down the door.
Of the three unidentified persons, two of them one AK rifle and a pistol.
After barging into the room, they tried to abduct Tarpon's youngest son.
This resulted in a scuffle between the armed persons and women of the family.
On hearing the house, people from the neighbourhood rushed out.
This compelled the armed persons to flee towards Khema hills, Tarpon conveyed.
Saying that he and his family has no enmity with any people nor received any demand letter, Tarpon appealed to all concerned to clarify as to why he and his family are being targeted.
On the other hand, taking strong exception to the abortive abduction attempt, local people staged a protest demonstration at Nongren Mayai leikai community hall today.
They put up placards which read as "we condemn firing at Pradhan's house", "we condemn firing at civilians", "stop abduction of civilians for ransom" etc.
They also appealed to the Government to attach a commando unit at Lamlai police station and to step up security measures at Nongren and surrounding areas.
Demanding recruitment of 10 people at JNIMS and Rs 10 crores from Minister Parijat, KCP-MTF abducted the Minister's son but was rescued by police a few days back.
Not only that, some people reportedly close to Parijat were also attacked.
