Imphal, October 25 2023:
The ethnic conflict, which erupted on May 3 and is now almost six months, has left many dead and thousands displaced.
However, both the central and state BJP governments are silently watching it all unfold as if the conflict is some kind of a festival, accused ten opposition political parties.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, Toijam Debananda, a representative of the ten political parties, demanded restoration of peace in Manipur at the earliest, in addition to ensuring the displaced people are able to return to their own homes and lands.
Questioning if there is any hidden agenda considering the lack of action from the ministers or MLAs who are part of the government, he recalled that the ten political parties, at the beginning of the conflict, had submitted memorandum to the Governor for convening a special session of the state assembly to bring about a solution to the crisis.
On top of this, multiple memorandums were submitted to the PM for resolving the conflict..
Appointments were also sought with the PM in Delhi, none of which were approved, he added.
Further questioning what kind of peace is the chief minister talking about, Debananda highlighted the issues of daily essential items not being allowed transportation via the national highways and the road blockade in Tengnoupal to prevent entry of Meeteis into Moreh.
He then urged for retrieving the mortal remains of the two deceased students and handing them over to their respective families, since, as per the government, the culprits involved in the killings have been arrested.
