Two Kuki men held with gun; arms recovered

Imphal, October 25 2023:
Security forces arrested two Kuki men with arms and ammunition from Torbung Bangla area and recovered a huge cache of weapons in two separate operations today.
The two men who have been arrested with arms and ammunition have been identified as Kammin Hangsing son of Thang Lam Hangshing and Kammin Sei son of Mang Boi, both of Gamnomphai, Kangpokpi district.
They were travelling in a Maruti Gypsy from Churachandpur towards S Kawtlian.
They were stopped at a mobile checkpost set up on Churachandpur-Imphal road (NH-2) at Torbung Bangla area by security forces including the police at around 8.40 am.

On checking the Maruti Gypsy, the security forces found one 7.65 mm Pistol (made in Italy), 25 numbers of 7.65 mm ammunition and one Magazine.
The two arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Churachandpur police station.
Yesterday too one SLR with magazine, two 12-bore country made SBBL, 20 rounds of 12-bore ammunition, 15 tear gas shells, one 40 mm lathode gun and five pompi guns were recovered during a search operation in Champai area under Leimakhong police station in Kangpokpi district.
One 12-bore single barrel rifle, four explosives, one 40 mm local made grenade launcher and one 40 mm grenade launcher (tear gas gun) were also recovered from Lamjang, Churachandpur district under Singhat police station yesterday.
In another incident, security forces conducted a cordon and search operation from 2.30 am to 6 am at Chandrakhong area under Nongpok Sekmai and recovered huge cache arms and ammunition.
The security forces including women police searched 160 houses, verified the identity of around 600 people and searched the foothills adjoining Chandrakhong, Phajakhong and Salam Patong.
The search at Salam Patong yielded arms and ammunition hidden to avoid detection, said police.
The arms and ammunition recovered include one INSAS 5.56 mm Rifle, two 7.62 SLR Rifle, one 40 mm Lathode gun, three 9 mm Pistol, seven 36 HG, one Chinese Grenade, two Magazines of 5.56 INSAS LMG, one Magazine of 5.56 INSAS, two rounds of 5.56 mm INSAS ammunition, 25 Magazines of 7.62 SLR, one Tear Smoke Grenade, one Stun Grenade, one 40 mm Lathode shell, three 7.62 SLR carts, six 7.62 mm AK 47 carts, six .303 carts, one Detonator No 36 Grenade, 13 blank carts, one 9 mm Magazine, one Walkie Talkie set HTRF and one bulletproof jacket with plate.
Late in the evening, Police Control Room, said security forces arrested two active cadres of an underground outfit from Imphal East and Imphal West district and recovered one 9mm Pistol and 143 ammunition.
They were allegedly involved in extortion of money from public, said PCR.
