Imphal, October 25 2023:
Illegal immigrant Kukis are taking advantage of the Village Authority Act, 1956 and settling in Manipur with forged documents, in addition to taking away the benefits of schedule tribes meant for the indigenous people, RPI (Athawale) national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam has stated.
He made the statement during a public meeting organised by Wangoo Awang Leikai Meira Paibi at Wangoo on Tuesday.
The meeting was organised to discuss the activities of Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
Maheshwar said that as the Village Authority Act, 1956, allows any village with over 20 residents to obtain recognition, illegal Kuki immigrants from outside took full advantage of this lacunae and have been establishing new villages.
As the benefits of ST status is also provided under the Act, there is an urgent need to amend the Act and incorporate some strict guidelines.
The RPI national secretary then stated that he has no political or private enmity with anyone.
However, he will stand against any attempt to annihilate his community and integrity of the state.
All indigenous communities of the state need to unite and work together to uproot Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists from the state, he exhorted.
