Imphal, October 25 2023:
Denouncing alleged failure of the state government and the CBI to recover the mortal remains of students Hemanjit and Linthoingambi or make any lead in the case despite the CBI having arrested the culprits involved in the double murder; Joint Action Committee against the Brutal Killing of Two Students Phijam Hemanjit Singh and Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam by Kuki Militants has cautioned of collaborating with other CSOs for going to suspected locations to retrieve their bodies.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, JAC co-convenor Ngasepam Bimola remarked that although the CBI has begun its investigation into the killings, the agency has not made it clear to the public with regard to the recovery of the students' mortal remains and how the students were murdered.
She then said that the relay hunger strike launched on October 3 for recovery of the bodies has been suspended.
Instead, it has been discussed with other CSOs to go to suspected locations to recover the mortal remains of the two students as well as launch intense agitations, if the authorities concerned fail to recover the bodies at the earliest, she cautioned.
JAC convenor L Kanta stated that the multiple talks have been held with the CM with regard to the students' killings, and the CM gave assurances every time.
However, no satisfactory action has been taken up till date.
As such, the JAC met the CM on October 21 but no positive results came out of the meeting.
Kanta then said that the government should not take the deaths of the two students lightly, while cautioning of launching intense agitations if the government continues to be apathetic to the matter.
The press meet was also attended by Meira Paibis of Young Progressive Club, Takyel Kolom Leikai; Youth Forum, Tera Tongbram and Tera Tongbram Leikai.
