Imphal, November 17 2023:
Representatives of 10 like-minded political parties met Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Friday and urged her to take responsibility for ensuring a meeting between an all-political party delegation and the Prime Minister so as to resolve the more than six months old crisis in Manipur.
Representatives of INC, AAP, CPI, CPI (M), AIFB, AITUC, JDU, NCP, RSP, SS (UTB) led by former chief minister and CLP leader O Ibobi Singh met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum urging that the Prime Minister should convene an all-political party to bring an end to the ongoing crisis which the Governor should take responsibility for materialisation.
Addressing media persons after meeting the Governor at Congress Bhawan, O Ibobi said that the violence which erupted on May 3 in the state has entered the seventh month but there is no sign of bringing solution for restoring peace and normalcy till date.
The state government neither chalk out a roadmap for bringing peace nor take up any step to hold talks between leaders of two warring communities to resolve the crisis.
In view of the prevailing situation, it is imperative for the Prime Minister to convene an all-political party meeting to resolve the crisis and bring back peace and normalcy in Manipur, Ibobi said, adding that the matter has been apprised to the Governor by submitting a memorandum.
Even if the PM is unable to come to Manipur, the all-political parties meet could be held in New Delhi and the Governor has been apprised to either give advice or take initiative directly by visiting New Delhi, O Ibobi said, adding that the chief minister could also go together with the Governor to New Delhi to mount pressure on the Centre on holding the all-political parties' meet to resolve the crisis.
According to the former chief minister, 10 like-minded political parties had in the past visited New Delhi to meet the PM but unable to get appointment even after waiting for nearly half-a-month.
Now is not the time to take political mileage and the 10 like-minded political parties have no intention of politicising the unrest situation.
However, it is responsibility of the government of the day to take initiative for resolving the crisis and the state could even seek help from the Centre if unable to bring solution, he added.
Chipping in, JDU Manipur spokesperson Nimaichand Luwang said that state government should shoulder the responsibility to resolve the ethnic violence as such issues in the past were always resolved when political parties joined hands together and discussed the matter thoroughly.
As time for resolving the crisis seems to be ticking away, the Governor was urged to take initiative for convene an all-political party meeting either at New Delhi or in the state, he said, adding that 10 political parties strongly condemn threat to veteran politicians O Joy Singh through social media.
