Awareness programme held

Centre for Women Development in collaboration with National Mental Health Programme, NHM Manipur, today organised a 1-day awareness programme on "Initiation of Day Care Centre for Severe Mentally Ill Persons" at Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai.
It was attended by National Mental Health Programme, NHM Manipur, State Nodal Officer Dr Athokpam Ranita; National Programme for Non-Communicable Diseases, NHM Manipur, State Nodal Officer Dr Premchandra; retired Senior Specialist, Public Health, Dr H Ibemcha and National Mental Health Programme, NHM Manipur, Clinical Psychologist M Herojit as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Athokpam Ranita stressed on the need to promote Day Care Centres for mental health treatment in states like Manipur where there is a high rate of mental health issues.
She continued that Day Care Centres play an important role in returning a mentally ill patient to a normal life in the community and enhancing the ability to cope with their environment.
Highlighting that the present unrest has hugely impacted the mental health of the State irrespective of age group or gender, she appealed to the people to extend support, help and develop a positive vibe in this critical period to keep mental illness at bay.
Centre for Women Development president N Jeevanmala Devi also spoke on the occasion.
