Bishnupur, November 17 2023:
Village Volunteer Force Torbung has urged the State Government to make arrangements for resettlement of displaced families of Torbung Gram Panchayat in their original homes by November 20 .
If the State Government fails to fulfil this demand, the Force will launch a series of intense agitation from the next day in association with State CSOs.
Keithelakpam Sushil made the appeal on behalf of Village Volunteer Force Torbung during a press briefing held at Ibudhou Thangjing Laikon located at Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai today.
Speaking on the occasion, he stated that some houses at Torbung GP continue to remain intact and unscathed but despite more than 6 months having passed since the eruption of violence, the State Government is unable to resettle the owners of these houses.
Asserting that the State Government has not taken up any measures to resettle the patta-carrying Meiteis of Torbung GP at their original homes which were burnt down by Kuki militants, he added that the State machinery is not even working towards shifting the displaced folks in their respective homes that have escaped the widespread arson carried out by Kuki militants at Torbung GP.
Thus, Sushil asserted that if the State Government does not take substantive measures to resettle the displaced owners of intact houses at Torbung GP by November 20, then the Force in collaboration with State CSOs will stage various agitations from November 21 onwards.
One Thangjam Abung from Torbung also shared that womenfolk of Torbung GP staged a hunger strike on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba this year and added that the State Government should bear the responsibility for any unwanted consequences that might follow if their demand goes unheeded.
