Efforts on to reopen schools: Education Minister

While the summer vacation for schools has been extended due to the ongoing violence in the state, the government is trying its level best to reopen the schools within the next few days, said Education minister Th Basanta Kumar.
Responding to queries from the media during the announcement of HSLCE results at the Babupara office of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) on Thursday, Basanta said that of the 4000 schools in the state, 100 have been temporarily converted into relief camps and 25 occupied by security personnel.
However, 3875 schools are not utilised in any way and as such, efforts are being made to reopen these schools, he added.
The minister continued that the government is keeping a close watch on plight of the displaced students.
Thus, a nodal officer has been appointed for every relief camp, under which a team of teachers are tasked with identifying students at the relief camps and seeing to their admissions at schools nearest to the camp.
Even if the students staying in relief camps want to study at private schools, private school organisa tions have agreed to allow, them to study for free for one year.
Thus, the govern ment is working to ensure the academic career of the displaced students remain as unaffected as possible, he conveyed.
