Imphal, June 15 2023:
Taking serious note of blackmailing of the government of India by Kuki militants as a fallout of the alleged BJP-Kuki militant nexus, All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) demanded an explanation from the union home minister on the same while regretting that innocent civilians of Manipur are paying a heavy price as the Kuki militants are taking full advantage of the pact signed by BJP with the intention to make electoral gains.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, AMBA president Puyam Tomcha emphasised the need to examine the agreement between the Kuki militants and the BJP leaders.
In view of the KNO claiming that union home minister Amit Shah assured to fulfil political aspirations of the Kuki in his election rally at Churachanpdur Public Ground on February 23, 2022, and the union home minister owes clarification on the same.
This claim by KNO needs to be challenged in the law court if it is true or the union home minister should issue an immediate clarification if not, he said.
Tomcha also strongly objected to the statement of Amit Shah that the ST demand of Meeteis is the root cause for the violence.
His statement is not only misleading and confusing the people of Manipur but the central security forces deployed in the state are turning their ire on civilians, for which Amit Shah should answer.
The Government of India took the responsibility to protect the people of the state the moment Manipur got merged into the Union of India and failing to carry out this responsibility will only testify the indiffereiit attitude of the Centre towards the state and its people, he added.
The AMBA president further said that Amit Shah should also make his stand clear on the present Crisis in the state, which is instigated by illegal immigrants from Myanmar.
The series of activities carried out by these illegal immigrants amount to blackmailing the government of India with the sole objective to annihilate Meeteis.
It is unfortunate that despite deployment of thousands of central security forces the innocent civilians are forced to defend themselves against persistent attacks by Kuki militants, he said and asked the government of India not to make any attempt to disintegrate Manipur.
