Govt response to unrest irks NSUI

Imphal, July 28 2023: The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) president Neeraj Kundan has claimed that the Centre and the State Government have shied away from taking up any step to control the ethnic-strife in Manipur.

Neeraj Kundan who landed in Manipur on a two-day visit yesterday addressed the media before leaving for Delhi at Hotel Yaiphaba at MG Avenue today.

At the function, the NSUI president said that he was disheartened on witnessing the conditions of students taking shelter at relief camps.

Many of the students have lost their important documents and study material when their houses were attacked by arsonists, he said and added that these students are not in the condition to resume their studies anytime soon.

The parents also don't have money to procure the study material of their children as all their sources of income have been cut by the prolonged violence, Neeraj Kundan continued.

Snapping of internet services have compounded the woes of students especially those preparing for competitive examinations, the NSUI president maintained and continued that it is the students who are among those facing the major brunt of the months long violence.

He then appealed to both Centre and the Manipur Government to take up extra measures for the displaced students.

Why is the Prime Minister not saying anything to restore normalcy in strife-torn Manipur, Neeraj Kundan asked and added that the Central leadership shouldn't show any favouritism in dealing the issue.

Extending solidarity to all who have lost their family members and properties in the violence, he prayed for peace to return in Manipur soon.

President of NSUI State unit Md Kabir also attended the press briefing.
