Launch of Plastic Bottle Bank cum awareness programme on Solid Waste Management held

The launching of 'Plastic Bottle Bank cum Awareness Program on Solid waste Management' was held today at Tengkonjang Auditorium Longmai-3, Noney District Headquarters.
The programme was organised by the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur in collaboration with the District Administration Noney and Longmai Nature Club.
The programme was graced by Joseph Pauline Kamson, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Noney and N Madhunimai Singh, MPS, SP Noney as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
DFO, CMO, EE PHED, ZEO Noney, SBI & MRB Noney Branch, Chairman Villages Council Longmai Area, President, RNCM Longmai Luangrian, Chairman Longmai Thoubei, Chairman Longmai Village Authority, Chairman Longmai Bazar Board, President, Longmai Youth League, President, Longmai Students' Union and President, Tengkonjang Youth Club also attended the programme as special invitees.
Ezekiel Dangmei President Longmai Nature Club delivered the welcome address followed by the inauguration of plastic bottle bank, with ribbon cutting by the chief guest.
Presenting the keynote address SK Gainaimei, Program Officer, Environment & Climate Change said that due to lack of awareness about solid waste management among the public, the State is facing the menace of rampant plastic pollution posing great risk to the environment.
In a bid to reduce the menace of plastic pollution and to safeguard the environment, the Department of Environment & Climate Change organised today's programme to raise awareness among the public, he said.
Dr Zianthuilung Kamei, CMO Noney also spoke about the solid waste and health and appealed to all to refrain from using plastic items considering its harmful effects on human health and the environment.
The dignitaries also planted some medicinal plants inside the campus of Noney District Headquarters.
