World Breastfeeding Week celebrated

World Breastfeeding Week 2023 was celebrated today at Acme Fertility & HealthCare Centre's Auditorium on the theme, "Enabling Breastfeeding, Making a difference for working parents" .
The programme was jointly organised by Breastfeeding Promotion Alliance of Manipur (BPAM), Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch (IMA-MSB), Imphal Obstetric & Gynaecologist Society (IOGS), Paediatric Association of Manipur (PAM), Trained Nurses' Association of India (TNAI) and Lions Club Imphal Excellence, said a release issued by Acme.
The programme was attended by Lion Dr Thokchom Ibomcha, president Lions Club Imphal Excellence; Dr Aribam Ibotombi Sharma, president BPAM and Prof Nandeibam Kameshore Singh, president PAM as presidium members.
Dr Kshetrimayum Chingthang, Director, Paediatrics Department-Acme Fertility & HealthCare Centre, also attended the event president by Dr James Elangbam, secretary BPAM & MD, Acme Fertility & HealthCare Centre, as the resource person.
The function began with a welcome address by Dr Mrinalini Konjengbam, Chief Officiating Officer, Acme Fertility & HealthCare Centre.
At the event, Dr N Kameshore stressed on the need to support, promote & protect breastfeeding in lactating mothers to enable successful 6 months exclusive breastfeeding.
Dr A Ibotombi Sharma gave a brief history of how BPAM came into being in Manipur since 200 and has worked tirelessly to enforce the current 6 months maternity leave through the Government of Manipur.
Dr Ksh Chingthang spoke on the importance of exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months for all babies and benefits of breastfeeding to the baby, mother and the society.
Dr James Elangbam announced that all women staff of Acme Fertility & HealthCare Centre will be given 6 months Maternity leave with immediate effect to promote exclusive breastfeeding for their babies in their crucial 6 months of life.
