Rich tributes paid to slain MR man

A wreath laying ceremony of 6th Manipur Rifles Rifleman Tourangbam Rishikumar Singh was held today at the Manipur Police Memorial pillar located at 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion campus.
The Manipur Rifles jawan was killed in an attack by Kuki militants at Senjam Chirang, Imphal West yesterday.
Rishikumar (47) s/o (late) T Madhuchandra of Wangjing Lamding Mamang Leikai succumbed to bullet injuries at Raj Medicity of North AOC at around 8 pm yesterday.
The deceased MR personnel who was deployed near a Water Supply Scheme at Senjam Chirang in Imphal West district was hit by a bullet which was suspected to be fired from a sniping rifle while trying to evacuate the villagers in the midst of a fierce attack launched by Kuki militants from a nearby hillock in front of Senjam Chirang.
In the wreath laying ceremony, Ministers K Govindas, H Dingo, MLAs K Ibomcha, Surjakumar Okram and high ranking officers of Manipur Police, including the DGP and members of the deceased family offered garlands and paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of the MR Rifleman.
A team of Manipur Rifles also gave a gun salute as a mark of honouring the slain Manipur Rifles personnel.
Later the corpse was taken to his birth place for last rites.
Speaking on the sideline of the ceremony, Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh urged the people and representatives of the civil bodies in the State to cooperate with the security forces to bring normalcy in the State at the earliest.
While expressing grief and sorrow on the loss of the State security personnel in the ongoing mayhem in the State, he said that the Manipur Police Department will take care of the family members of the deceased State security personnel.
The security forces in the State, including Central forces, are trying hard to prevent the loss of life and casualties and the attempt has been achieving success gradually, he added.
Giving a stern warning against all those who were involved in snatching arms and ammunition from security forces, Rajiv maintained that the Police Department has already began an inquiry and investigation into the incident of snatching arms and ammunitions from a 2nd IRB post located at Naransena in Bishnupur district.
He further appealed to the people to cooperate with State and Central forces to bring back normalcy in Manipur.
Meanwhile, womenfolk and public in various parts of the State also paid floral tributes and honoured the deceased MR personnel as the mortal remains was taken to his native village along Imphal-Moreh Road (NH-102) .
