Imphal, July 31 2010:
A thanksgiving ceremony, in acknowledgement of the election of Sh Sheipu as Chairman of Sadar Hills ADC was held today at Keithelmanbi community hall.
Among others, the ceremony was attended by MLA T Mangibabu, HAC Chairman Thangminlien Kipgen, former Minister Ngamthang Haokip and MPCC general secretary in-charge Victor Keishing as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Ngamthang Haokip said that Sadar Hills remained adverse to Congress for long years.
But after more than 20 years, Autonomous District Council elections were conducted under the SPF Government led by Chief Minister O Ibobi.
The Sadar Hills ADC would be able to take up various development programmes in collaboration with the SPF Government.
This would bring the people of Sadar Hills closer to Congress, Ngamthang Haokip said.
Mangibabu said that establishment of ADCs can bring equitable development between the hills and the valley besides strengthening democracy through local governance.
Thangminlien Kipgen asserted that an ADC Chairman has greater responsibility than an MLA for bringing development to the grassroots level.
He exuded that Sadar Hills would witness some positive changes very soon under the leadership of Sheipu.
Victor Keishing remarked holding ADC elections successfully was a major achievement of the Congress.
For the hill people, establishment of ADCs was like meeting lost parents, he said.
Victor Keishing also appealed to all not to politicise religion.
The ceremony culminated with a musical programme.
