Imphal, July 31 2010:
A sit-in-demonstration was staged at Khabam Lamkhai to protest alleged failure of the Government to control prices of essential commodities.
The day-long protest was held under the aegis of MPP's Chanura Marup, Heingang Kendra in collaboration with various other local bodies.
The protestors also raised demand for expeditious development of Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-53 to facilitate regular supply of essential items, reopen Old Cachar road for multiple supply route and fulfil demands raised by Transporters and Drivers' Council to mitigate suffering of the masses.
Addressing the gathering working president of chanura Marup Dhaneshori expressed strong resentment that problem of essential item shortages still remains inspite of lifting of the economic blockade.
She also pointed out that housewives had been enduring severe hardships in running the family as a consequence of food shortage crisis, which she contended is a fallout of the Government's failure to check prices of essential commodities.
Calling upon the manipuri womenfolk to raise their voices against the artificial shortage of food items in the State, Dhaneshori accused the SPF Government of failing to redress the problems inspite of various public agitations as well as demonstrations spearheaded by the MPP.
She maintained that the forthcoming general elections is an opportunity that misgovernance would not be tolerated by the people.
Various other MPP leaders and functionaries also spoke at the occasion.
