AZSU condemns Moidangpok incident

Tamenglong, September 12 2011: The All Zeliangrong Students' Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) in a press statement strongly condemned the violent incident which occurred on the 10th September (Saturday) 2011, triggered by a rumour of suspected blockade supporters attacking goods trucks and a driver killed.

The statement issued by Nchaheing Kompoing General secretary of All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AMN) said that acting on the rumour local people of Moidangpok area blocked the buses coming from Tamenglong and Jiribam at Keithel Manbi whereas Alto Cars, bearing Registration No.MN01-W-4837 and a Maruti Van, bearing Registration No.5596 were escorted by the local people of Moidangpok by giving fabricated assurance to allow free passage.

The occupants of the vehicle fled to safe their life.

Fortunately, the Assam Rifles who were on patrol duty saved them.A woman occupant of the Alto Cars was dragged to a secluded place and physically assaulted by some local women of the area.

The ill-fated vehicles were towed in at Patsoi police station.

The union also condemned the communal government of Manipur for being silent and reluctant to take up any punitive action against the culprits.

This was not the first incident, there have been many instances also in the past especially during the economic blockade in 2010, the union alleged.

The statement went on to say that the Manipur government really wants to welcome the communal flare-up between the tribal and non-tribal community.

Otherwise, there should be timely intervention from the government to prevent from such sort of incident.

The Union also called upon the Drivers and Motors' Workers' Union not to give fabricated news and level false allegation.

According to their statement, they accused the UNC blockade supporters for having involved in the burning of loaded trucks in between Keimai and Sembilon and Barak on National Highway 37 recently by heavily armed unidentified persons.

The Union also clarified that the statement was fabricated and baseless.

As the Naga loves peace and is sincerely dedicated to peaceful co-existence we will never resort to do anything to aggravate communal flare-up.

Further, the statement added that as per Resolution No.1 (b) of the intellectual consultative meeting adopted on the 10th September, 2011, asjed all the concerned Zeliangrong MLAs, ADC Members to clarify their stand on the present issue.

The union wondered as to why they intentionally try to evade and remain aloof from taking part in the present issue.

Instead of being silent as a concerned person they should have a define role.

The Union also called upon the MLAs and MDC members to furnish their opinion through print and electronic media at the earliest.
