Imphal, June 12 2010:
Along with extension of its health care facilities to Myanmarese patients coming to the hospital, Shija Hospital and Research Institution has started paying attention to other regions of South East Asia, Managing Director of the hospital Dr Kh Palin has stated.
Addressing a press conference in this regard today, Dr Palin observed that it is time to include health care as part of the ongoing Indo-Myanmar border trade activities.
Stating that there should be no restriction either from the side of the Government of India or Government of Manipur or Myanmarese authority on the cross border movement of the people in connection with health care treatment, Dr Palin noted that this would also help in strengthening the bilateral relationship of the two neighbouring countries.
With better health care facilities available here , of late patients from Myanmar have been coming to Manipur for treatment.
Apart from five patients from Myanmar who have been benefited under the Smile Train Project of Shija, the hospital had also treated many cases of Nuero and burnt in the past.
All these patients were brought to Shija Hospital by one social worker L Basanta of Moreh with the help and support of the DGP of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles, Dr Palin informed.
Some of the Myanmarese patients, who have come for operation under the Smile Train Project and were also present during the press conference, said that health care facilities available in Rangoon and other places of Myanmar are not so good as compare to the facilities available in Manipur.
They could experience improvement in their health condition after undergoing treatment here which was not so there.
This time in all eight patients including seven from Tamu and one from Moreh have come for treatment at Shija Hospital.
