Imphal, June 12 2010:
On the occasion of the 185th Victory Day which marked the re-attainment of Manipur's sovereignty from the hands of the Burmese, a seminar on 'Boundaries of Manipur' was held at the State Central Library here today.
The seminar organised under the aegis of the SR Institute of Manipur Studies was graced by Speaker Dr S Budhichandra and Director (retd) of the College Development Council, Manipur University Dr Y Mohendro as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken presided over the function.
Observing that boundary disputes between States/countries or within the same State or country have become a common occurrence in different parts of the world, Dr Budhichandra acknowledged the importance of such seminars towards resolving boundary disputes in a democratic manner.
Dr Y Mohendro said that in a modern democratic society where any individual can attain any height of success according to their own capabilities and determination, one should do away with all kinds of communal disposition of minds as well as prejudiced ideas against any community.
Dr Kh Loken said that Manipur's unique culture and centuries old territorial boundary can be protected and preserved only when all communities of the State overcome their differences and work together.
He further called upon all to learn from past events and promote unity and communal harmony.
Retired Reader of History Department, Oriental College, B Kulachandra and N Indramani of the Manipur State Archives presented papers at the seminar.
